Sons of the Flag was founded in 2012 by former Navy SEAL, Ryan “Birdman” Parrott, eager to support fellow military and first responder burn survivors. By funding innovative medical research, training the next generation of burn surgeons, and providing direct survivor support, we’re driving positive change within the burn community and supporting All survivors “Beyond the Burn.”
As our mission has grown, so has our identity. Sons of the Flag is evolving to Beyond the Burn, a name that reflects our commitment to supporting survivors through every stage of recovery. While we continue to fund advanced burn fellowships, invest in innovative research, and provide direct assistance to survivors, this new name more clearly represents our vision: empowering individuals to move beyond their injuries and toward healing, resilience, and a fulfilled life.
